Another special USRSA

Yet another special USRSA
salute to George Hancock, who published the first running streak list in 1994.
In 1998 I developed the
concept for “an official repository for running streak records” in a letter to
George Hancock. George lent his support
to the idea, and I proceeded to rough up drafts for articles of incorporation
and by-laws to create such an organization.
I then hired an attorney in 1999 to proceed with incorporation, and the
United States Running Streak Association, Inc. officially received its charter
as a non-profit organization from the State of
In keeping with that
original goal this 2009 Yearbook was published by the U. S. Running Streak
Association, Inc. to honor the running and racing exploits of all its members.
This effort is dedicated
to the likes of Carroll Wright, Barbara Latta and all
those others such as myself, who dare to see in
themselves the athletes who can compete in the same races with the likes of
Mark Covert, Jon Sutherland, Don Slusser and the
other champions of the USRSA.
“I looked for my hero, and he is me.” Pogo.
This is also the place for
another special USRSA salute: to Craig Snapp, Steve DeBoer, George Hancock and those others who write for The Streak Registry on a regular or
somewhat regular basis. Any organization
is only as good as the members who support it.
The future of the USRSA lies in the hands of those of us who are proud
enough of their running accomplishments, including their running streaks, to
share the knowledge they gleaned through their years of running with those of
lesser experience.
And still another special
USRSA salute: to Steve Morrow and John Wallace, III for their massive efforts
in developing and maintaining the USRSA website at www.runeveryday.com.
Where, fellow road warriors, would we be without your superb
efforts?
Finally, thank you to all
the many of you who have faithfully supported the cause with your dues
throughout the years. The USRSA has
attempted to remain as all-inclusive as possible, and for that reason has not
raised its dues from the beginning. We
also use the additional donations made by some members to pay the dues for
those who cannot otherwise afford membership.
So if and when you can, please send a little extra to assist your
brother and sister streak runners who may be less fortunate.
Dawn and I continue to
enjoy this mighty labor of love. Good
running to all. John Strumsky.
